FAQ

  1. What do I bring to my first wrestling class?

If possible, please try to arrive 15 minutes early so you can sign the waiver and meet the coaches. Wear athletic shorts/pants, shirt, and wrestling shoes. We have a bin of wrestling shoes available if you need to borrow a pair. We do have a water fountain, but bringing your own water bottle is also recommended!

  2. What do I bring to my first Jiu Jitsu class?

If possible, please try to arrive 15 minutes early so you can sign the waiver and meet the coaches. If it's a nogi class- wear a rash guard and athletic shorts or athletic pants. If it's a gi class- you'll where a gi uniform which consists of the gi jacket, pants, and belt. Preferably sandals or slides are the best shoe to wear because you'll be barefoot in class and that will allow you to easily get on and off the mats.

  3. What if I have my own gi, but it has another academy's logo on it?

We don't care :) we would love for you to rep Apex, but the most important thing is that you're here training.

  4. What is the difference between Gi and Nogi?
The main difference between gi and nogi is the uniform. The gi consists of a jacket, pants, and a belt. This allows the practitioners to use grips to grab their opponent's clothing to control or submit them.  In nogi, the practitioners do not wear the uniform, instead wearing shorts, tights, and a rash guard. The practitioner is not allowed to grab the opponents clothing in this style of jiu jitsu.

  5. Can women train wrestling and Jiu Jitsu?
Yes! This is an excellent sport for women to develop self defense, confidence, mental & physical fitness.

  6. Is there a specific age range for Jiu Jitsu?
Anyone can start at any time. Better late than never :)
